An Integrated state
of Meditation and Knowledge Enrichment
Chandan Sukumar
Senguta
On the basis of different features of Karma
Sanyasa and Karma Yoga duly described by Lord Krishna in Chapter 5 we can point
out some aspects related to Yoga of Actions and Yoga of Inactions. Remaining
off the actions and remaining deeply involved in different actions lead
ultimately towards the state of renunciation as a final fate of both the types
of worships. By moving through any one of the paths we can achieve the same
result. Accomplishment through both the path signifies some common aspects in
both the types of worships. Person having involvement in actions can identify
presence of the Divine in all creations due to accommodation of true knowledge
in the intellect. Individual having steadiness in works never considers himself
or herself as a doer of any action. Yogi often performs action with their mind,
body and soul only for attaining personal advancement. Whatever actions we have
visible in Nature are because of the involvement of three qualities of the
Nature element. Nothing in special is created by the God and no external forces
are responsible for such creations. Sinful or virtuous deed of anyone is not
attended by the Divine. Ignorance covers up the eternal knowledge and compels
an individual to lose its adherence to the fact of recognizing the role of the
supreme master in the steps as well as propositions related to creation.
True knowledge also ensures the vision of an
individual with which one start identifying the presence of the Divine in
different creatures. With such understanding one start offering services to all
the creatures. It also balances the mind and keeps the mind stable during any
kind of loss or gain in terms of materials of different types or wealth in the
form of money. Pleasure has a beginning and an end, due to this reason wise do
not delight in them. The person with disciplined mind can work out strategies
of imparting oneself in the process of development.
Shutting out all external forces, by
equalizing all the incoming and outgoing breathes, by fixing mind and intellect
on the Divine, an individual can feel the omnipresence of a supreme power
through a sequential instances. Disciplined mind even remain involved in the
welfare of millions through ensuring their participation in the duties duly
assigned by the Nature and by the Divine. Balance of both the supreme creator
ensures timely functioning of the intellect. That intellect starts reflecting
the true nature of the Divine and, by doing so; make the individual aware of
its presence by the side of the creation. Such a sage, who lives in the world
remaining free from desire and fear, become eligible for the attainment of
freedom from earthly attachments. Such a kind of freedom from physical bondage
will ensure the timely liberation of the soul which started reflecting the true
nature of the Divine (or the supreme Creator in the form of Purush)[1]
. Real saints always perform duties
without expecting anything in return. The path of renunciation is not different
than the path of Yoga. One cannot even claim oneself as a Yogi without moving
through renunciation of the worldly pleasures and comforts. A sage moves
further through practices of meditation. The mind of an individual can help a
lot by implying adequate sanction from the inner consent for accepting
different propositions of Yoga and Meditation. A victorious upon mind can have
liberation from the feelings of all sorts of dualities like happiness and
sorrow, honour and dishonour. Such individual gains a state of real happiness
of mind and stability for the intellect.
Conqueror of all the senses and follower of the propositions of Yoga and
Meditation always remain in the state of a balanced intellect. Meditation helps
an individual to divert senses and impulses inwardly to ensure the instances
with which the Yogi start exploring oneself through reflections of the Divine,
which has registered its impression upon the intellect. With such a state of
sensible ascent such individual start recognizing things with their real
nature. They even start correlating similarities between iron, copper, gold and
other earthly existing alloys. Such intellect attains an impartial stand and start
treating friends and enemies with an equal grace.[2]
It is also made clear by the supreme Master
that practice of some perfect posture (Asana) can give an individual adequate
stability of body and mind. It will also nullify the chances of development of
any bodily anomalies during the period of worship. Every activity in our daily
life should have a kind of adequate balance. One should not go on sleeping for
a long time and even should not go on working without taking a rest in the
middle. Taking too much food and remaining in a fast for a longer time cannot make
any individual competent in the path of Yoga. It should have adequate balance
by all means. Individual with such a state of balanced mind start meditating
upon the Divine. Such individual also start unfolding different mysterious
layers of knowledge for understanding the new appearance of the supreme
creator. It is the act similar to that of the blossoming of a flower. Such kind
of awakened individual can feel a development in their mind and intellect which
remove them considerably off the state of selfish acts and conducts. One cannot
forcefully move any individual up to that state of mental stability as we
cannot force the unfoldment of petals of a flower. These developments are
automatically accomplishable alongside the practices of Yoga and Meditation.
The state of inner joy develops after recognising the true reflection of the
Divine on the horizon of the intellect. Such state of joy and happiness may
remain permanently embedded in the mind and intellect and imply a kind of
influence upon both senses and action organs.
That joyous state of a being is considered as
the state of Samadhi[3] or
a state of the stability of mind and intellect on the subjects of the Divine.[4]
Chances of success increases considerably when
one repeatedly brings the wandering mind back to the subjects of the Divine and
aspire for remaining fixed to that subject. With such a state of enlightenment
that individual start recognizing the presence of the Divine in all the
creations. Such individual can fix up
mind and intellect in Divine even remaining active at varying instances.
Renunciation and the state at which such
renunciation makes the individual free from the cycle of life and birth is
described perpetually by the saint through the verses of supreme creator at
different instances in the holy book Gita. At the final state all individuals
are driven close towards the Devine, even against their eternal will, and
renunciation, in particular, is ensured. Evil forces, at certain instances,
rarely become capable of bringing themselves off the cycle of life and death.
It also entangles the individual in the cyclic process of birth and death.
One more question arises in our mind regarding
purity of soul. Is there any instance when a soul attains impurity? The
question is obviously, no. quality parameter is restricted only up to the ego
and mental status of an individual. The creator element and the intellect
remain off the parameters of quality. Being a segment of energy, a soul always
remains untouched by the quality parameters. A soft dissociation of the body
and soul is initiated during death of an individual.
All the Nature elements having their presence
in the process of creation have three different quality parameters, such as
Satwa (Purity, truth, harmony, goodness and wiser state), Rajas (State of
activity, passion) and Tamas (a state of darkness, destruction and choosiness).
None of the elements other than the Purush (or the supreme creator power) are
devoid of these three qualities. One quality may go down by percentage in certain
elements and may go up by percentage by keeping simultaneous decline in the
percentage of other qualities of the same element in the same state of
creation. All the three quality parameters always add up to a complete whole
for the specific creation element belonging to the Nature.
The quality of purity, truth and goodness
binds the soul by creating a sense of happiness and knowledge. Second type of
quality, such as Passion, arises from the worldly desires. It also conditions a
soul towards actions. It arises from
worldly desires and affections. Being a causative agent of acts like
negligence, laziness and sleep, the third quality (a state of ignorance,
darkness and destruction) causes development of illusion for the embodied
soul. Actions done in the mode of
passion results in pain, while those performed in the mode of ignorance results
in darkness. Result of the truth and purity results in the illumination of the
soul. Mode of goodness results in the development of knowledge.
We can easy recognize interactive aspects of
all these three qualities in the states of manifestation of Nature elements.
Wise persons having a feeling and understanding of the Divine omnipresence can
recognize all the three quality parameters of the Nature elements. Such person
maintains the neutral state of the intellect with a clear stand during
interchange of quality triplet at all instances.
Combination of three qualities along with
their varying ratio implies adequate influence upon the character of the
individual. Domination of first quality signifies the character of a wise
person. Here all the three qualities, with a domination of truthfulness and
enlightenment process, ensure the onset of wisdom in the soul which starts
reflecting the features of Divine elements.
Person with a pure mind can feel the incorporation of wisdom and true
happiness in their intellect.
We already came to know about the involvement
of energy element in all sorts of physical and chemical activities in this
universe. Person with impregnation of wisdom in mind can ascertain the reasons
behind all the activities. All living forms also come in existence because of
the involvement of energy element only. Such energy element, directly or
indirectly driven out from the expanded source of the naturally occurring
luminous object like that of the Sun, ensures timely confluence of energy in
the form of electro-magnetic waves.
[1] Sage KApil, Sahkhya Philosophy ; Purush (or the supreme Creator
element ) can be considered as the Divine power having a definitive role in
making the creation possible.
[2] Bhagvadgita, Chapter 6 , Verse 1 to 12,
[3] The term Samdhi was originally used by Saint Patanjali in his
creation titled Yoga Philosophy. The state of Samadhi comes after moving
through the practices of Meditation. It can be ascribed as a state of
renunciation and also a state of higher level of knowledge with which the
fellow individual starts recognizing the omnipresence of the Divine through the
reflections perceivable on the horizon of intellect.
